Restricting iPad Mini to 'kiosk' mode

Has anybody needed to lock-down an iPad to only run a single app?

We need to lock down all other functions, to keep the app running, prevent 'sleep' mode and any other browsing around. Has anyone done this before?

We are deploying iPad Mini (not the retina) to client and need it to essentially run in kiosk mode.

I think I may have answered my own question, the article below looks like a goodie. However would love to hear from others who have needed to do this. Success / Failures... Learnings.. etc

Done this for Eventbrite registration at events.

It's very simple to configure and you can even turn off parts of the screen - make it so the users can't get into the settings feature. This keeps them from using the Home button to exit, from double tapping to change programs, and from playing with your user settings within the app.

Good luck

I'm currently looking into developing an app designed to collect leads in kiosk mode. I'm curious to know what you're use cases are for an iPad in kiosk mode. Are you just using it for lead generation or gathering contacts at an event? Or an information display? Anything else?

Our case was simply checkin for pre-registered guests plus on the spot registration. Our events are typically free so do not involve a transaction though we have done transactions once in a blue moon.

a simple google search for ipod mini in kiosk mode came up with this http://teachmeios.com/turn-on-kids-mode-guided-access-on-your-iphone-ipad-mini-and-ipod-touch-in-ios-6/ looks pretty straight forward... A bit of a rant time but founder dating really shouldn't be for this kind of post. do your own basic research people... Far too often people are posting requesting the most basic information that can be found in 30 seconds of googling. I am on this site to network with others who are aiming to solve big problems and are investing their wisdom to support beyond the basics. Daniel Caplin ph. So the best way is using Mobile Device Management to send a App Lock payload to a supervised device. It will allow you to also remotely update the application and manage hundreds or thousands of devices at a time.

My softwarehttps://appblade.com does this and your first 25 devices are free. Check it out.

Hi guys,

Thought I'd follow up with our findings here. Turns out its SO EASY to do. Apple has included a function called GUIDED ACCESS in the O/S under settings -> General - > accessibility. You just follow the instructions and draw with your finger which areas you want to lockdown and set a code.

Hi @danielcaplin, I think there is merit to what you say here... although much more so this is a great forum to ask and hear the experiences of others. Everyone else on this particular thread offered meaningful advice or was interested in hearing the result of my implementation. Great you are aiming to solve big problems - go do it. All of us are solving big problems, however there are several interesting steps along the way that this very receptive and high-quality group can offer insight on.. its been tremendously helpful to me- and I have given back to the forum by offering insight of my own. Many postings seem rather basic, others seem more significant.. either way I wouldn't change anything.
