How can a person technically validate their hardware idea?

My friend has an idea in the fitness tracking space and wants to technically validate his idea. What are the options for getting a feasibility investigation/writeup done?

I will be out of the office from March 16 to March 25. Please contact Ian Rongve for inquiries regarding the Applied Research..

Depending on the hardware details, you might want to check outhttp://www.zintro.com/ for experts who do short-term contracts (no direct affiliation, but I know the founder). Finding a 1-off in your $300-$500 price range might be tough, it generally takes a couple hours just to come up to speed on the details of the a project.

I can help. I have an MSEE and am working on wearables myself. Shoot me an e-mail to apdobaj at gadgettronix dot com and we can exchange CV's and NDA's. Will's probably correct about consulting firms, but being actively engaged in that space I can give you a pretty good idea of technical feasibility in a short amount of time.

We do quite a few of those for startups and entrepreneurs starting the design process. Depending on the level of detail you require it could be a couple hours to a few days. We have a few EE and ME folks in both Seattle and SF who could put a couple hours in for you. If interested, let me know.
